Donkey Willow Sculpture

A donkey willow sculpture for Stourport-on-Severn's canal basin

I was commissioned by Stourport Forward to make a life size donkey willow sculpture for their canal side museum, which is a former donkey stable. Donkeys were crucial to the canal industry of Stourport-on-Severn, as they were used to tow the carts of goods once they were unloaded from the canal boats and trows which travelled up and down the River Severn. Local volunteers have named the donkey Sabrina which is the name of the goddess of the River Severn.

With huge thanks to Alexis from Bloomin' Lovely for their weaving help, and Martin for the metal framework.

The sculpture is part of a much wider National Lottery Heritage Fund project, called Navigate Stourport, which seeks to protect and celebrate the heritage of Stourport-on-Severn. I’ll be delivering a wider sculpture trail for the project next year, which I'm really excited to get started on. I'll be carrying out community consultation for the sculpture trail at a family Easter event on Saturday 4th April. I want to hear local residents' thoughts for the trail and will be running some kid-friendly creative activities to get everyone's ideas flowing. So if you're local to Stourport and want to have your say on the project, then please do come along. Further details about the event will be announced on the Stourport Forward website: https://www.stourportforward.org.uk/
